FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, December 2, 2016 11:22
(Ottawa) —West Neighbourhood Officers of the Ottawa Police Service are seeking public assistance to identify a male suspect in relation to an ongoing investigation.
There have been close to 10 indecent act incidents reported in October and November 2016 in which a male suspect is approaching women in the area bordered by Richmond Road, Caldwell Avenue, Churchill Avenue and Fairmont Street.
In most cases, the suspect drove up beside a woman, who is walking alone in the evening hours, and got her attention by asking questions. He then performed an Indecent Act before driving away.
The victims have provided a variation of the same description of the male suspect. He is described as being a Middle Eastern man, 20 to 30 years of age, stocky to heavy build, dark hair with a beard (varying lengths). He was driving a silver or grey-coloured smaller-sized SUV at the time of incidents.
The Ottawa Police Service is reminding the public to call police immediately if an incident like this occurs. No incident should be considered too small to report. The information provided by members of the public helps us identify crime trends and patterns.
If the person following you is driving a car, take out a pen and paper, look at the licence plate and write the number down, making sure that the driver sees you do this. Try to remember the complexion, body build, height, weight, age, and type of clothing worn by the suspect. If possible, write down the information while it is still fresh in your memory.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or downloading the Ottawa Police app.
