FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, September 15, 2017  2 :42pm

(Ottawa)– Members of the public and media are invited to attend the third annual Diversity Celebration hosted at the Ottawa Police Headquarters on September 20.

TIME:                    4 – 6 pm

LOCATION:                         474 Elgin Street, Front Entrance

As in years past, these celebrations include much music, food, and entertainment, which is generously donated by our communities. New this year will be the inclusion of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, where approximately 15 individuals from around the world will be sworn in as Canadian Citizens. The significance of this ceremony aligns with our Multi-Year Action Plan through the community engagement commitment and responsibility.

Canada’s future depends on us growing together. That is why our multiculturalism programs continue to encourage all Canadians to embrace our shared values, history and institutions and to build a strong, integrated society.

Historically, the Ottawa Police Service has hosted a celebration recognizing Canadian Multiculturalism day. Founded in 2002 by then-Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, June 27th was designated as an opportunity to reflect on both the contributions of Canada’s various cultural communities and the values that we all share: freedom, democracy, individual rights and the rule of law.

In the summer of 2017, the Ottawa Police Service underwent a major exterior renovation resulting in the postponement of the event. Having recognized this event as a significant and beneficial opportunity to interact with the diverse community we serve, the Diversity Celebration has been moved to Wednesday September 20th, 2017 to coincide with the United Nations' International Day of Peace (September 21st).

Please feel free to drop by to sample culturally ethnic treats, enjoy the atmosphere and welcome Canada’s newest citizens.
