FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, April 20, 2018 12:08pm
(Ottawa)—Effective April 30, 2018, the Ottawa Police Service Call Centre will change its name to the Ottawa Police Reporting Unit (PRU). At the same time, the hours of operation will be adjusted to correspond with demands from the public for non-urgent matters.
“The name change was necessary to reflect the addition of overseeing the online reporting to the duties of staff,” said Inspector Tessa Youngson-Larochelle, who heads Customer Service.
This section is responsible for almost one third of all reports made to Ottawa Police.
The new hours of operation for the PRU will be 8 am to midnight, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
“Staffing our Police Reporting Unit twenty hours per day was no longer necessary due to the increase in online reporting for non-emergencies,” said Inspector Youngson-Larochelle.
Some incidents require an officer to be dispatched to take a report in person, while other reports can be taken over the phone or online.
