FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, August 31, 2018      4 pm

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police continues its enforcement activities in the ByWard Market, Sandy Hill and Montreal Road areas this long weekend as part of their ongoing community safety initiatives. Officers will be accompanied by OC Transpo special constables and inspectors from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Officers will conduct walk-throughs of several local bars and assisted the AGCO with compliance checks.

As students prepare to begin another semester, the Ottawa Police along with Campus Security would like to remind students to stay close to your friends, keep an eye on each other and each other’s drink and plan a safe ride home in advance.

“Everyone should feel safe and be able to enjoy their neighbourhood,” said Ottawa Police Inspector Trish Ferguson, “so we will be focusing on areas around campuses to ensure by-laws are being respected.”

Officers will also be on the lookout for Liquor Licence Act and criminal offences. The joint enforcement campaign continues all weekend.
