Results of Commercial Motor vehicle Inspection Blitz

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, October 11, 2018                2:15pm

(Ottawa) – Ottawa Police Service and Ministry Of Transportation officers conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection blitz on October 3rd and 4th.  A total of 102 Commercial Motor Vehicles were inspected with 27 being placed “Out of Service” (26% failure rate) for various safety defects.  

A total of 52 Highway Traffic Act charges were laid. Two drivers were charged for driving while their license was suspended. 10 drivers were charged for not completing a Pre-Trip Daily Inspection of their vehicle.

In addition, Ministry of Environment officers participated in the blitz, conducting 6 emissions inspections, which resulted in 8 charges.

“Drivers and operators of commercial motor vehicles are reminded that road safety and proper vehicle maintenance begins with you, to ensure that all road users are safe when travelling on our roadways,” says Cst. Phil Kane, “Ottawa Police officers, along with MTO officers, will continue regular enforcement of commercial motor vehicles throughout the year to ensure safety on our roads”.
