Join us at the 4th annual "Human Rights Learning Forum" on December 6th

(Ottawa) — In recognition of Human Rights Day, members of the media and the community are invited to attend the fourth annual Ottawa Police Service Human Rights Learning Forum on Thursday, December 6, 2018, from 8:30am to 4:00pm at the Hellenic Meeting and Reception Centre, located at 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, in Ottawa.

At this forum, participants will explore the root causes of extremism and prevention through community empowerment. Participants will:

  • Broaden their understanding of the impact of hate/bias on the community;
  • Identify the progressive indicators towards radicalization; and
  • Develop recommendations to mitigate the effects of hate/bias.

The forum will officially begin at 9:00am with traditional Indigenous openings followed by welcoming comments by the Ottawa Police Services Board Chair Eli El-Chantiry and Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau.

Built as a day of understanding and self-realization, the forum will feature guest speakers representing:

  • Ontario’s Crown Attorney Office: Mark Moors;
  • Featherston Public School: Jannah Campbell, Vice-Principal;
  • Congregation Machzikei Hadas: Rabbi Dr. Reuven Bulka; and
  • Centre for Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence: Marian Misdrahi, Partnerships & Community Engagement Manager.

Our forum will culminate with our keynote speaker, Boston Police Commissioner (Ret’d), William (Bill) Evans, who will outline unique initiatives implemented by his department after the tragedy during the Boston Marathon.
