(Ottawa)–Yesterday afternoon, a Traffic officer who was conducting traffic enforcement using the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system came across a stolen vehicle from British Columbia, which was travelling on Montreal Road.

The stopped driver Jeff Claude GODIN, 40 years old, with addresses in both Renfrew County (ON) and West Kelowna BC was charged with:

  • Theft of vehicle
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Prohibited Driving
  • Driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act.

GODIN is scheduled to appear at show cause court today.

“This is an example of how our three ALPR units can assist officers in stopping those who should not be on the road,” said Ottawa Police Traffic Services Staff Sergeant Marc-André Sheehy. “The tool can help us locate and identify wanted persons as well as identifying a variety of Highway Traffic Act (HTA) infractions.”

“The ALPR technology continues to bring an important contribution to ensuring that our roads are safe for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers,” said Rob Wilkinson, Coordinator of Safer Roads Ottawa.
