Ottawa Youth charged with Child Pornography

 (Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (OPS ICE) has laid charges against a Young Person under the age of 18 following an investigation of child pornography. 

On August 24, 2015, the OPS ICE Unit received information from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) regarding 34 uploads of child pornography. These images were uploaded using an online bulletin board named “Padlet”, which is based in San Francisco, California. 

The NCECC is a national clearing house and coordination centre for all international requests to conduct investigations in Canada related to child sexual exploitation on the Internet. The IP address reported by Padlet resolved to the Ottawa area and was subsequently disseminated to the Ottawa Police Service. 

On February 4, 2016, the OPS ICE Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the Beacon Hill area of Ottawa. Several computers and external digital media were seized and are being forensically analyzed. 

The Young Person was charged with Possession and Accessing Child Pornography and will appear in court on February 5, 2016. 

The Ottawa Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to protect children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.
