Recovered handgun on Montreal Road leads to charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, February 19, 2019                2:52pm

(Ottawa) – Ottawa Police Bikes and Beats officers located a stolen vehicle on Cobourg Street, Friday, February 15, 2019 at 4:11pm. The officers followed the stolen vehicle, attempting to stop it. The vehicle fled the area not stopping for the officers. The vehicle was later located still running on Montreal road east of the Cummings Bridge; all occupants had fled the vehicle and, in their haste, dropped a loaded firearm on the road near the stolen vehicle. 

A rapid response by Frontline officers led to the location and arrest of two suspects within a short distance of the abandoned stolen vehicle. 

The investigation by the Guns and Gangs unit has resulted in the following charges being laid against Abdulqadir YUSSUF, 19 years old of no fixed address and Kevin NSABUA, 18 years old of no fixed address:  

Both are jointly charged with:

  • Resisting a Peace Officer
  • Occupying a Motor Vehicle Taken Without Consent
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Exceeding 5000$
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace
  • Unauthorized Possession a Prohibited Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession a Prohibited Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon knowing No Authority 

Kevin NSABUA has also been charged with:

  • Flight from a Peace Officer
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle 

NSABUA and YUSSUF appeared in show cause court on Saturday morning February 16. and have been held in custody.
