Charges laid in pharmacy robberies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, February 11, 2016   9:21 am

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to two recent pharmacy robberies.

On January 30, 2016, at approximately 3:15 pm, a lone male entered a pharmacy situated along the 1200 block of Greenbank Road. The suspect made a demand for specific drugs. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of narcotics. There were no injuries.

On February 1, 2016, the same suspect attends a grocery store situated along the 3700 block of Strandherd Road and attends the pharmacy located within. The suspect took measures to conceal his identity as he entered the store. The suspect made a demand for narcotics but was declined by staff. The suspect then fled the premises, empty-handed, and without incident.

Symon MELNICK, age 20 of Ottawa, has been charged with the following offences:

*       Robbery

*       Attempted robbery

*       Wearing a disguise

*       Two counts breach of probation

Mr. Melnick was in custody on another matter and will appear in court for these charges on February 16, 2016.
