FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, May 16, 2019 3:47pm
(Ottawa) – During the May long weekend, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) will continue its community safety initiatives to reduce incidents of crime and public disorder in the ByWard Market, Downtown Rideau and Vanier areas, beginning the evening of May 17.
“Our safety initiatives have a zero tolerance approach to disorderly behaviour, such as Liquor Licence Act offences, criminal activity and aggressive panhandling that negatively impacts residents, visitors and businesses,” said OPS Frontline Superintendent Mark Ford.
Frontline officers and Community Police Officers will be joined by partners such as Ottawa Bylaw, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (ACGO) and OC Transpo as part of these enforcement initiatives.
Our Traffic officers will also take part with RIDEs and traffic safety blitzes during the May long weekend.
Police is reminding the public of the important role everyone can play in their neighbourhood’s safety. ‘If you see a crime, report it’.
You can do so online www.ottawapolice.ca/onlinereporting, by calling the non-emergency number 613-236-1222, extension 7300, or by dialling 911 in the case of an emergency or a crime in progress.
