(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Marine, Dive and Trails (MDT) Section was out and about this weekend to ensure the safety of all those enjoying the outdoors on their snowmobiles.
Over the weekend, MDT officers monitored trails in the East and West end of the City and issued 42 provincial offence notices (PONs) for Highway Traffic Act offences, seven Part III notices for offences such as driving while suspended, no insurance and speeding.
Saturday evening, MDT officers also conducted a RIDE in the East end, and one person was charged with Impaired Operation of a conveyance.
“Impaired driving can lead to catastrophic and traumatic events,” said Staff Sgt. Marc-André Sheehy, with the Ottawa Police Traffic Services - responsible for the Marine, Dive and Trails Unit (MDT). “If you have information about an impaired driver—either by drugs or alcohol—please call 911. We want everyone to enjoy the winter season safely.”
The Marine, Dive and Trails Section will keep patrolling on and around the trails, considering that many trails have yet to open this season. If a trail is closed, remember that the Trespass to Property Act applies.
