Suspect to identify in personal robbery in downtown Ottawa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, February 19, 2020    2:13pm 

(Ottawa) –Frontline officers responded to a robbery near the intersection of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive on Thursday January 30, 2020. 

At approximately 6:25pm a man met with two other men under the assumption he was going to sell a ring. The ring was handed over to the potential buyers who then attacked the seller, causing severe injuries. The two suspects then fled the area with the ring.

Today, the Robbery Unit charged one of the suspects, Jean Sebastien BIGRAS, 23 years old, of Gatineau with:

  • Robbery
  • Aggravated Assault

He is scheduled to appear in show cause court today.

The second suspect is described as a Caucasian man, 22-28yrs old, 6’2” (188cm), approximately 250lbs (113kg), brown eyes, short brown hair, unshaven, spoke English with a French Canadian accent. He was wearing a black baseball hat, black zip up jacket with a black hooded sweater underneath, dark blue jeans and white running shoes. (See picture)
