(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Robbery Unit has charged two youths in relation to a robbery that occurred on June 7th at the intersection of Rideau Street and Colonel By Drive.
At approximately 7:30am, the victim was sleeping in the vestibule of a closed restaurant when approached by the youths – one male and one female. They attempted to steal his jacket and bag. The victim attempted to flee when the man pulled a knife on him. He was able to exit the vestibule where he was pursued by the two suspects. They tried to pull the bag from the victim and in the process, the victim was slashed on his arm. The suspects fled the scene empty-handed and were later located and arrested by Frontline officers.
While in cells, the male suspect spat on a Special Constable.
The 17 year old man and the 16 year old woman were both charged with Armed Robbery. Furthermore, the man was charged with:
- Possession of a weapon
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Failing to comply with a sentence
The woman was released by Undertaking and the man is scheduled to attend court today.
