FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, June 16, 2020 9:39 p.m.
(Ottawa)—Ottawa Fire, Paramedics and Police were called to Petrie Island this evening at about 5:30 p.m. after a small child was reported missing.
Emergency responders immediately began searching the area, including the water where Ottawa Fire Water Rescue located the missing two-year-old boy without vital signs.
Paramedics rushed the child to hospital where, despite medical interventions, he was pronounced deceased.
Supports have been put in place for the family and the first responders engaged on this call.
We offer our condolences to the family of the young boy.
We also extend our thanks to the members of the public who also assisted in searching for him before emergency responders arrived.
Police continue to investigate as per police policy for the sudden death of a child under the age of five.
