Three people charged following Rideau Street swarming

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, September 11, 2020        12:37pm

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged three people involved in a swarming incident on September 9, 2020, at the intersection of Rideau and William Streets. 

At approximately 10:50 pm, three people approached a man on the sidewalk and one of them engaged him in a conversation. The suspects punched the victim in the face and knocked him to the ground. The suspects stole the victim’s cell phone, personal belongings and fled the area.

The three suspects were identified and arrested without incident on September 10th by Frontline Officers.

Mohamed HLAL, 24 years old of Montréal, Bedreddine HADDAD, 22 years old of Ottawa and a 16 year old youth of Ottawa were charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence.

HLAL was further charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance and Obstructing a Peace Officer. 

HLAL and HADDAD are scheduled to appear in court today.
