(Ottawa)—On April 24th, 2016 Ottawa Police responded to the Sandy Hill arena after a male was observed looking under a bathroom stall in the women’s washroom. A 15 year old female was startled by the male and he quickly fled the area. The incident was reported to police.
Further investigation by Central Division Neighbourhood Officers and District Investigators discovered that the male had also been in a women’s washroom at the Sports Complex of Ottawa University on April 15, 2016. That day, Campus Security responded to a report of a male in the women’s washroom. The male matching the description was located soon after in the men’s washroom; he was identified, confirmed not to be a student, escorted off the property and given a notice of trespass by Campus Security.
On Sunday, May1st, officers arrested and charged David BEDFORD, 35 years old of Ottawa with:
- 2 counts of Mischief for interfering with the lawful use and enjoyment of property contrary to section 430(1) of the Criminal Code; and
- 1 count of Secretly Observe/record person expecting privacy contrary to section 162 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
The investigation continues. Investigators are concerned that there may be other such incidents that have not been reported to police.
