FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, October 21, 2015             2:39pm

(Ottawa) — Android and Blackberry users can now download a new and improved compatible version of the Ottawa Police app. An updated version of the previously released iOS app (iPhone / iPad) is now also available in the Apple app store.

In addition to having access to news, traffic disruptions, police station listings, a collision toolkit, crime map, reporting options and crime prevention resources, users can also:

  • browse updated photos of persons wanted by the Ottawa Police;
  • access police contact information with one click; and
  • be reminded to “Leave The Phone Alone” while driving.

The new Android app was developed by Ottawa Police Sgt. Anthony Skinner and Colin White, a student from University of Toronto who grew up in Ottawa.

“We were fortunate to have a community volunteer develop the initial Apple app and to date, we’ve had 5500 downloads on it,” said Sgt. Skinner. “We began to work on the android version shortly after the initial launch.”

In the last year, Sgt. Skinner and his team gathered feedback on the iOS app, worked out some technical issues, updated the Apple app, created the new android app, and developed a partnership for ongoing support with the School of Computer Sciences at Carleton University.
