(Ottawa) – Did you know that you can greatly reduce incidents of crime in your neighbourhood simply by paying attention?

It’s true. Paying attention does help with crime prevention, and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) will be out at area malls during Crime Prevention Week to help you make your homes, your bikes, your car, and your life a lot safer with some simple tips and tricks.

Our Community Police Officers will be at the following locations during Crime Prevention Week:

  • November 6: Carlingwood Shopping Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.;
  • November 7: St. Laurent Shopping Centre from 9:00 a.m. to noon; and
  • November 7: Billings Bridge Shopping Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This year’s theme is Crime Prevention: Help Us Help You” and Ottawa residents are welcome to drop by to learn how to safeguard their family and their home. Topics include:

  • Personal safety;
  • Bike safety;
  • Home inspections;
  • Online reporting; and
  • Vehicle security.

This year’s events kick off with a celebration at Ottawa City Hall at the 10th Annual Crime Prevention Ottawa (CPO) Awards on November 5th at 5:00pm. These awards honour individuals, groups and programs making a contribution to the safety of our community.

Our officers will be there to take questions from the public, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will join those attending in recognizing some exceptional residents who have helped to increase the safety of our neighbourhoods city-wide.
