14 people charged in ongoing street level drug trafficking investigation

 (Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Street Crime Unit has begun making arrests in a street level drug trafficking investigation in the ByWard Market and Vanier area. The investigation was driven by community and service provider complaints and identified thirty-one (31) people involved in selling cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin (purple heroin), Fentanyl, amphetamines, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, xanax, and cannabis marihuana in the area.

So far, fourteen (14) people have been arrested and charged. Arrests for outstanding persons began Wednesday, June 6^th. 

Analysis is still pending on many of the drugs seized. 

“Again, our Street Crime Unit responded to both community and service provider complaints related to ongoing street level drug trafficking in the downtown core,” said S/Sgt Rick Carey of the Ottawa Police Service Drug and Street Crime Units. “Some of those arrested and charged are selling drugs to be able to feed their own addictions. Many others are simply preying on people’s addictions across the city for profit.” 

The investigation included the execution of two separate Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrants in May. 

On Wednesday, May 9^th, a CDSA search warrant was executed on a residence in the 100 block of Carillon Street, in Vanier, resulting in the seizure of cocaine, crack cocaine, Fentanyl (Purple Putty), hydromorphone, oxycocet and cannabis marihuana. One male was taken into custody and charged with drug related offences. 

On Wednesday, May 16^th, a CDSA Search Warrant was executed on a residence in the 300 block of Shakespeare Street, in Vanier, resulting in the seizure of crack cocaine. One male was taken into custody and charged with drug related offences. 

 Charged persons up to this date are:

3. Youssouf BOURAGBA, (22 years old) –Hamond Ontario
4. Steve MAVIS, (55 years old) –Ottawa
5. Calvin PEACOCK,  (34 years old) –Ottawa
6. Andy JALBERT,  (36 years old) –Ottawa
7. Gordon VANCE, (55 years old) -Ottawa
8. Daniel SIMPSON,  (29 years old) -Ottawa
9. Bouchra BEN-NASSAR,  (F) (30 years old)- Ottawa
10. William OUELLETTE,  (23 years old) - Ottawa
11. Hyet Mary JABARA,  (F) (49 years old)- Ottawa
12. Jacob BEAVER, (28 years old) –Ottawa (Orleans)
13. Harlan NANOKEESIC, (25 years old) – Ottawa
14. Chad BROWNRIGG,  (33 years old) –Ottawa

Arrests and charges for another 15 people are expected. 

Charges include:

• Trafficking Schedule I – 42 counts
• Possession for the Purpose Schedule I – 21 counts
• Possession for the Purpose Schedule II – 2 counts
• Possession Schedule I – 2 counts
• Possession Proceeds Under $5000 – 41 counts
• Fail to Comply Recognizance/Undertaking – 2 counts.
