(Ottawa) – A Frontline patrol project aimed at a series of high end vehicle thefts this summer resulted in the arrest of four men early Friday morning (August 31).
Frontline officers, aware that overnight thefts of high end vehicles have been occurring, identified a potential targeted vehicle in the New Edinburgh area.
The officers located a suspicious vehicle in the area and observed the behaviour of the occupants. At about 3 a.m., as two of the suspects attempted to steal the targeted Lexus from a driveway, frontline officers converged on the suspects and immediately arrested two of them without incident.
The two other suspects attempted to flee in their vehicle but were stopped a short distance away by frontline patrol officers who were waiting for them. Those two suspects were arrested without incident.
Police have been investigating the thefts of similar vehicles across the city for the last several months.
The Central Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing the investigation and charges are pending.
Updates to follow.
