Man involved in over 20 theft and fraud cases in the Ottawa area has been identified and charged

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, June 22, 2018   2:30pm 

(Ottawa)— The Central General Criminal Investigation is advising that a male was arrested in the afternoon of Thursday, June 21, 2018 as a result of an investigation by the Organized Fraud Unit at the Ottawa International Airport. The male was travelling under a false identity using an airfare ticket purchased with a stolen credit card number.

The Central General Criminal Investigation Unit, who was conducting a parallel investigation, was able to identify the male with the help of the public following the May 2018 news release (below).

Brian PERRY, 47 years old, of no fixed address was charged with the following:

  • Fraud under $5000 (12 counts)
  • Theft under $5000 (10 counts)
  • Possession of Property obtained by crime
  • Procure, Possess, transfer or sell identity document
  • Use a forged document
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Obstruct peace officer

He is scheduled to appear in court today.

Police looking to identify a man involved in over 20 theft and fraud cases in the Ottawa area

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Central Criminal Investigations is looking for public assistance to identify a male involved in over 20 incidents of theft and frauds across the city.

The suspect appears to be an opportunist where he steals purses, wallets or any other valuables which have been left unattended by their owners. He then uses the stolen credit cards fraudulently in various purchases.

He has been active in the area since February 2018, frequenting Universities, other stores and coffee shops.

Investigators describe the suspect as a Caucasian male, in his 30s, medium to heavy build, and between 175 cm and 180 cm (5’9” and 5’11”) with short brown hair.  He may be driving a black or dark color 4 door sedan vehicle (see photos).
