Firearms charges laid following an incident on Newgale Street

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, May 4, 2020   2:00pm 

(Ottawa) – Frontline Officers responded to a possible injured person in the 1-100 block of Newgale Street yesterday evening. 

At approximately 8:05pm, a man called police concerned that a family member was injured. Responding officers determined there were no injuries suffered by the family member. 

Out of concern for the safety of that family member, the man was asked to leave the home. When the man proceeded to gather a few belongings to spend the night somewhere else; he advised officers that he wanted to retrieve a pellet gun. The gun was determined to be a real handgun and the officers arrested the man without incident. 

The Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit charged Connor WHITESIDE, 27 years old, of Ottawa with:

  • Careless Storage of a firearm
  • Possess a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Possess a restricted firearm
  • Possess a restricted firearm knowingly not being the holder of a licence
  • Possess a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Possess a substance Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substance

He is scheduled to appear in court today.
