(Ottawa) – Today, the Ottawa Police East Criminal Investigations Unit charged a man in relation to an incident that occurred on May14th on Montreal Road.
At approximately 11:55pm, a frontline officer stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Offence. As the officer was speaking with the driver, the driver sped away, dragging the officer. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed for 500 metres, at which point the officer was thrown off the vehicle.
The vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed. The officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
East Criminal Investigators identified the driver as also being involved in an incident on March 18th, where a man drove a vehicle into a park bench - causing damage - abandoned the vehicle and reported it stolen.
The suspect was arrested in Ottawa without incident in the afternoon of May 25th.
Bradley DESGENS, 36 years old, of Ottawa is charged with:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon
- Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle Cause Bodily Harm
- Obstruction of Justice
- Unlawful possession of a Schedule I Substance
He was also charged with Public Mischief in relation to the March 18th incident.
He is scheduled to appear in court today.
