(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating a recent pharmacy robbery and is seeking the public’s help to identify the male suspect responsible.
On September 25, 2015, at approximately 2:50pm, a lone male suspect entered a pharmacy situated along the 2500 block of Baseline Road near Pinecrest. The suspect entered and walked directly to the dispensing area. The suspect grabbed the pharmacist and made a demand for narcotics. The suspect obtained a quantity of drugs and placed them in a black plastic bag which he had brought with him.
The suspect became locked in the premises and tried to crawl out through the ceiling, only to fall to the floor. The suspect was able to break a front window and break out of the store. There were no injuries.
He was seen fleeing on foot toward the area of 1300 Pinecrest Road where he was seen jumping into a beige pick-up truck.
A video and stills are being released to the public for the identification of the suspect.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, 30-35 years with a lean build. At the time, he wore a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, gloves, jeans and sneakers.
"The Robbery Unit is closely monitoring a recent increase in pharmacy robberies overall, with 22 reported year to date, specifically where drugs were targeted,” said Staff Sergeant Mike Haarbosch of the Robbery Unit. “This is double the tally at this same time last year."
