(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service East District Neighbourhood Officers (NHOs) and OC Transpo Security conducted three joint community safety blitzes in and around local transit routes.
“The objective was to ensure community security and to enforce OC Transpo Bylaws, City Bylaws, Provincial Statutes and Canadian Criminal Code throughout bus routes in the East end of Ottawa,” said Insp. Pat Flanagan, East District Support, Ottawa Police.
On April 29th, 2016, the following charges were laid:
- Breach of Probation x 2
- Fare-related charges under Transit Bylaws x 44
- Causing a disturbance by disorderly conduct under Transit Bylaws x 1
- Wilfully obstructing proper authority in proper authority's performance of his duty under Transit Bylaws x 1
- Engaging in prohibited activity on premises under Trespass to Property Act x 1
- Having liquor in open container in other than licensed premises under Liquor License Act x 1
- A young offender received a warning for carrying a concealed weapon under Criminal Code of Canada x 1
On May 20, 2016, the following charges were laid:
- Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) x 5
- Breach of Recognizance (145(3)) x 5
- Warrants executed x 4
- Assault x 2
- Aggravated Assault x 1
- Assault with a weapon x 1
- Attempted Robbery x 1
On July 8, 2016, these charges were laid:
- Fare-related charges under Transit Bylaws x 44
“Joint blitzes give us an opportunity to work together with our City partners with the common goal to make public transport safer for everyone,” added S/Sgt. Roland Campbell.
