Ottawa Police and partners release commercial motor vehicle enforcement results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, April 12, 2018      3:23pm

(Ottawa) — The Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment and the Ottawa Police Service conducted a one day proactive commercial motor vehicle blitz in the city’s west end.

The one day long enforcement campaign, which took place Wednesday, April 11, 2018, focused on commercial motor vehicle safety and their drivers and was conducted by 8 CVSA-certified commercial motor vehicle inspectors.

As a result, a total of 36 inspections were conducted with 10 commercial motor vehicles being placed out of service. There were also 54 charges laid varying from vehicle maintenance, load securement, annual inspections to moving violations.

Some of the more interesting defects found included a commercial truck with a cracked frame and several vehicles contravening environmental regulations.

Ottawa residents have identified traffic safety as a top priority. The Ottawa Police Service will continue to make sure that the roads are safe for residents.
